Whether it is your first degree or a postgraduate degree, we welcome your interest in choosing to study languages, culture and literature at the Faculty of Humanities, as their excellent command will help you boost your future career options and open many doors at various institutions in Latvia and abroad. Depending on where your interests and competencies lie, you may wish to become a linguist, literary scholar, folklorist, translator, interpreter, editor, anthropologist or theatre scholar.

We are proud of our large student community - nearly 1000 domestic and international students have chosen our faculty as their alma mater. Besides, the faculty hosts students from all over the world who join various study courses to enhance their academic experience through Erasmus+ or other international agreements. This makes us a truly multilingual and multicultural faculty open to learning and bonding across cultures. As internationalisation is one of our strategic objectives, we enhance our global presence by expanding our teaching and learning footprint abroad within the framework of Erasmus + mobility and other programmes.

Being at the heart of humanities education in Latvia, the Faculty of Humanities is a popular choice for students. Our programmes offer studies of more than 20 languages, delivered not only in English, but also in German, French, Russian and other languages.

Importantly, it offers holistic education and prepares students for international and domestic markets in a variety of sectors, whatever their calling is or whatever job they might do. Our students develop a strong intercultural awareness and teamwork skills to achieve their goals; they foster creativity and enhance their ability to give eloquent arguments when delivering their opinion; they learn to challenge themselves and think critically. In the times of data and information overload, our students learn to scan and critically assess large bodies of texts and information.
