School students have an opportunity to get to know the Faculty of Humanities, “shadowing” our academic staff members. “Shadow Days” is an educational event that takes place in Latvia annually. School students can attend any participating institution and observe the work of a representative of a chosen profession over several hours. The aim of “Shadow Days” is to acquaint school students with various professions, and help them choose the profession and get ready for the labour market.

The Faculty of Humanities each year participates in the event. We offer school students to “shadow” one of our university professors. The “Shadow Day” at the Faculty of Humanities usually begins with the meeting with the administration of the Faculty, where the photos are taken and school students get acquainted with the professors they have chosen to “shadow”. Then school students follow the professor to the classes, at the end of which they have an opportunity to ask questions about the profession. Later school students get to know the Faculty’s library, and participate in various interactive events (for instance, in 2020, school students enjoyed the modern style of poetry writing “blackout poetry” together with the editor of the literary portal “Ubi Sunt”). The “Shadow Day” ends with the informal meeting with representatives of Student Council, where school students get an opportunity to hear about a student’s life from the point of view of current students.

Those school students who participated in our “Shadow Days” say that the event was useful and pleasant, and helped them to feel the atmosphere at the Faculty.

We are looking forward to seeing you all at our “Shadow Day” next year!
