The Institute of Latvian History at the Faculty of Humanities of the University of Latvia, in cooperation with the Latvian Association of Archaeologists and an international team of organisers, will hold the international scholarly online conference Historical Clothing and Textiles in Europe on 26–28 February 2026, online (Zoom).

Textiles and clothing are central to human history, reflecting developments in the economy, technology, trade, identity, belief systems, and the environment. From garments and footwear to accessories, these materials offer a rich lens through which to explore Europe’s cultural and historical landscape across time.

The conference will feature 39 papers presented by researchers of dress and textile history from 23 countries. Participants will address the development of clothing over time and the technological, social, ecological, and other aspects of textiles, ranging from the Stone Age to the present day.
