DESCRIPTION:Mūsdienu pasaule ir piesātināta ar attēliem\, ekrāniem un vizuāliem datiem\, taču jautājums par to\, ko patiesībā nozīmē redzēt\, kļūst arvien aktuālāks. Simpozijs aicina kopīgi pārdomāt attēla un redzēšanas jēdzienu filozofijā\, izglītībā\, mākslā un citās humanitāro zinātņu jomās\, iezīmējot pāreju no pasīvas skatīšanās uz apzinātu\, kritisku un radošu redzēšanu. \nSimpozijs ir paredzēts doktorantiem\, pēcdoktorantiem un agrīnās karjeras pētniekiem\, kā arī profesoriem\, pedagogiem\, māksliniekiem\, teorētiķiem\, dizaineriem un humanitāro zinātņu un mākslas jomas praktiķiem. \nSimpozijā vizuālizpratne tiks aplūkota kā spēja ne tikai “lasīt” attēlus\, bet arī reflektējoši ar tiem mijiedarboties\, veidojot jēgu\, zināšanas un radošo praksi. Pasākuma mērķis ir radīt starptautisku akadēmisku telpu diskusijām par to\, kā vizualitāte ietekmē domāšanu\, mācīšanu\, mācīšanos\, pētniecību un kultūras procesus. \nDiskusijas simpozijā tiks strukturētas trīs savstarpēji cieši saistītos tematiskajos virzienos. Pirmais pievērsīsies uztveres un maņu jautājumiem\, pētot\, kā notiek pāreja no estētiskas un sensoras pieredzes uz izziņu un padziļinātu izpratni. \nOtrs virziens\,akcentēs vizuālo kultūru un vizuālizpratni\, analizējot\, kā mākslas mediji\, algoritmi un mākslīgā intelekta ģenerēti attēli ietekmē mūsdienu redzēšanas\, radīšanas un interpretācijas procesus. \nSavukārt trešais tematiskais virziens — mācīšanās redzēt citādi — izcels humanitāro zinātņu un mākslas izglītības nozīmi spējas paplašināt redzējumu globalizētā\, kultūrām un identitātēm daudzveidīgā pasaulē. \nPasākums notiks angļu valodā.\nSimpozija publiskās daļas programma.\nReģistrēties.\n\n----\nFrom May 27 to 29\, an international interdisciplinary symposium titled “From Looking to Seeing: Visual Literacy in the Visual World” will take place at the House of Nature of the Academic Centre of the University of Latvia (UL). The symposium is organised by the UL FORTHEM Art and Aesthetics Lab.\nThe contemporary world is saturated with images\, screens\, and visual data\, yet the question of what it truly means to see is becoming increasingly pressing. The symposium invites collective reflection on the concepts of the image and seeing in philosophy\, education\, the arts\, and other fields of the humanities\, highlighting the shift from passive looking to conscious\, critical\, and creative seeing. \nThe symposium is intended for PhD students\, postdoctoral researchers\, and early-career scholars\, as well as professors\, educators\, artists\, theorists\, designers\, and practitioners in the humanities and arts. Interdisciplinary and cross-institutional proposals are especially encouraged. \nAt the symposium\, visual literacy will be approached as the capacity not only to “read” images but also to engage with them reflectively\, critically\, and creatively\, thereby shaping meaning\, knowledge\, and creative practice. The aim of the event is to create an international academic space for discussion on how visuality influences thinking\, teaching\, learning\, research\, and cultural processes. \nDiscussions at the symposium will be structured around three closely interconnected thematic strands. The first focuses on perception and the senses\, exploring how the transition from aesthetic and sensory experience to knowledge and deeper understanding takes place. \nThe second strand emphasises visual culture and visual literacy\, analysing how art media\, algorithms\, and images generated by artificial intelligence shape contemporary practices of seeing\, creating\, and interpreting visual material. \nThe third thematic strand—learning to see differently—highlights the role of education in the humanities and the arts in expanding ways of seeing within a globalised world characterised by cultural and identity diversity. \nProgramme for public online event on 28 May 2026.\nPlease register here till 27 May 2026.
